Lisu Lodge is located about an hour’s drive north of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. Operated and run by villagers of the Lisu hill tribe nearby, the hotel serves as a community-based project helping to generate income for the villagers themselves. The broader aim is to preserve the cultural heritage of the Lisu people, with programmes for visitors that aim to teach about the traditions and culture of the hill tribes of northern Thailand.
Set within glorious rolling rice fields and impressive mountain ranges, the scenery surrounding the lodge is breathtaking. Guests will get guaranteed fantastic views of the lush countryside from any of the 20 rooms across the 4 traditional guesthouses.
The guesthouses all serve as monuments to Lisu design, with local handicrafts, traditional materials, and woven fabrics all on display. These design features offer a natural simplicity to the lodge that complements the beautiful surroundings. Despite this basic design, visitors will find modern comforts, including en-suite bathrooms and electric fans to keep cool in the summer.
The lodge is operated by Lisu villagers who will take care of you during your stay. The villagers or local activity operators run tours and activities at the lodge, while food is locally sourced and fetched from our organic rice fields and vegetable garden. There is a real sense of community, something that is explored further through the organised activities.
The programmes are flexible depending on the length of your stay. They can incorporate various experiences, including a trip to the local temple, some whitewater rafting, engaging in village activities related to rice farming or crop planting, and trekking along the fantastic nature trails. Throughout the activities, the emphasis is on interaction, sharing experiences, and learning about your Lisu hosts. Guests are treated to evening dance shows to accompany the authentic, local-sourced Thai meals.
