Guests meet at Namkhem Marina pier, where they’ll receive a briefing on the day’s snorkelling and sailing activities. We’ll be zooming by speedboat out to Surin National Marine Park.
The offshore archipelago is a protected area boasting a phenomenal range of flora and fauna, both in the trees and in the broad and shallow coral reefs that line the sheltered eastern coast. For the experienced naturalist, a treasure trove of things to spot. For the casual observer, a beautiful tropical paradise brimming with life.
We’ll first head to a great spot for beginner snorkellers at Chong Kad Channel before visiting Moken village. The Moken are nomadic sea people who permanently reside around the islands – learn a little about their way of life.
Enjoy a well-earned buffet lunch in the national park restaurant with a variety of Thai dishes, including an impressive selection of tropical fruits. Eat up to prepare for plenty more snorkelling activities in the afternoon.
After lunch, we’ll stop by two more snorkelling locations – the choice will depend on the tides and the expert’s knowledge of the best spots to catch glimpses of the multicoloured creatures that lurk below.
There is a mix of broad shallow reefs and steep drop-offs around these parts, meaning there’s plenty to explore for both beginner and advanced snorkellers. You’ll see plenty of pelagic fish, along with the chance of glimpsing sea turtles and manta rays.
After an afternoon of exploration, we’ll whizz over the waves back to the mainland, where guests are welcomed with drinks, snacks, papaya salad, and fried chicken before the return journey to the hotel.
