Rise and shine! It’s an early start today with a hotel pick-up and transfer to conduct a quick bike fitting at the meeting point and prepare for the morning’s urban adventure. From here, embark on a one-hour Tuk Tuk ride which will lead to the peninsula of Bang Krachao. This area of the city comprises almost 5,000 acres of farmlands, forests and intricate canal networks. The peninsula is responsible for absorbing over 6,000 tons of carbon dioxide each year, and is truly an urban oasis to escape the noise and pollution of Bangkok’s surrounding city development.
A quick coffee will kick start the ride while our team prepares your bikes. The first stop will be Wat Chak Daeng. This temple has gained fame in recent years for the work done by the Assistant Abbot, Pra Maha Pranom, whereby he produced a ’nano-robe’ made from recycled plastics, cotton and zinc-oxide nano-particles. The temple educates visitors and the local community about the benefits of recycling materials and reducing plastic waste.
From here, the tour continues through rich mangroves and towards another ancient temple with a fascinating history and architectural style. Continuing along the elevated walkways and navigating the intricate network of canals, there will be ample opportunity to explore the unique communities of the Bang Krachao peninsula. Each community has developed around offering specialised products; some communities produce herbal massage balls, others practise fabric dyeing with the use of natural dyes. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the local residents and learn about their way of life and the culture of living on Bang Krachao.
Some optional activities are available along the way including kayaking on the canals, and visiting an adventure park for families with kids. These can be discussed with the guide and paid for on the spot so that the money funnels directly into the community. Enjoy a quick lunch at a local restaurant before returning to the pick-up point and onwards to the hotel.
